Inspired by young buds, the main motif of Calyx is reminiscent of sepals just beginning to separate, revealing a glimpse of the petals inside.

The hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, starting with a twisted rib brim. Pattern includes both charted and written instructions. Techniques required: knitting in the round, twisted rib, cables, decreases.

Hat is shown in Size 3, with 1½” / 4 cm negative ease at the brim and 1” / 2.5 cm positive ease at the main section.

Shown in Blacker Yarns Tamar Lustre Blend 4-ply (100% pure new wool; 380 yds / 350 m per 3.5 oz / 100 g skein). Color: Camel; 1 (1, 1) skein

Gauge

37.5 sts x 40 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Twisted Rib stitch on smaller needles

20-st Calyx motif measures approx 2½” / 6.5 cm on larger needles

US 1 / 2.25 mm circular, 16” / 40 cm long

US 2 / 2.75 mm circular, 16” / 40 cm long US 2 / 2.75 mm needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round

Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge after blocking.
