Field Manual II is the natural progression from Field Manual I.

The techniques are more advanced, the processes are more detailed and the decisions become more deliberate — but the aim remains the same throughout:

The book goes beyond colour recipes. It looks at how different materials behave, how light moves across cloth, how wear changes the finished appearance, and how to decide what a figure actually needs at each stage.

FMII contains around 50% more material than FMI, but the extra content is there to make the processes easier to understand, not more difficult.

The photography has also moved forward considerably, with more step-by-step images, more useful viewing angles and a greater emphasis on showing the changes that actually matter from one stage to the next.

Most importantly, FMII does not pretend that advanced painting is always linear.

Colours are reinstated.

Shadows are strengthened.

Glazes soften effects that have gone too far.

Sometimes the correct decision is to add more paint.

Sometimes it is simply to stop.

The intention is to show not only how I paint, but how I assess, correct and refine a figure as the work develops.
