Developing auditory skills lays the crucial foundation on which your child will build many of their listening and communication skills. Although every child develops at a different pace, this development typically happens in four stages:

  1. Awareness
  2. Paying attention
  3. Responding
  4. Understanding meaning

With this exam students will be asked to draw an X over a particular item, circle, draw boxes, show that they understand left and right, and be able to identify an item in a set, and more by simple instruction allowing them to develop attentive hearing. Students should know the value of coins and dollar bills before taking this exam.

This exam works as well to identify Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) which is a disorder of the auditory (hearing) system that causes a disruption in the way that an individual's brain understands what they are hearing.
