Debt Payoff Planner & Budget Spreadsheet | Snowball / Avalanche Tracker + Lean-Month Budget (Google Sheets)
Most debt spreadsheets assume a steady paycheck. Real life doesn't always work like that. Fresh Start is a Google Sheets debt payoff planner and budget template for families living on one income, between jobs, or earning a different amount every month.
List your debts once, and the plan does the rest. Choose debt snowball (smallest balance first), debt avalanche (highest interest first) or your own custom order. The sheet works out your debt-free date, how much interest you save compared with paying only the minimums, and the exact month each debt is gone. When one debt is paid off, its payment rolls onto the next one automatically.
Budget on your lean month. If your income varies, type your last six months. The budget uses your lowest month, so a slow month is already covered. When a good month comes, the sheet splits the extra between your emergency buffer and your debt, using a percentage you choose.
Find money you didn't know you had. The subscription audit lists every repeating charge, turns weekly and yearly costs into monthly ones, flags the ones you haven't used in months, and totals what you save by cancelling.
Watch it shrink. A dashboard shows your debt-free date, months to go, interest saved, your next debt to knock out and a path-to-zero chart. Once a month you type in what you owe, and Check-ins tells you if you're ahead of plan.
Works in any free Google account. USD or CAD. Comes filled with clearly marked sample data so you can see how it works before you add your own.

FAQ
- Do I need Excel? No. It runs in Google Sheets with any free Google account, on computer, tablet or phone (editing is easiest on a computer).
- Snowball or avalanche, which is better? Avalanche usually costs less interest; snowball gives you quicker wins. Flip the dropdown and the sheet shows you both answers for your own debts.
- My income changes every month. Will this work? Yes, that's what the lean-month budget is for.
- Does it work in Canada? Yes. Pick CAD in Settings.
- Is this financial advice? No. It's a planning tool. Interest is estimated monthly at APR ÷ 12 with fixed minimum payments, so real statements will differ a little. Check in monthly and update your balances.
- Refunds? Because it's an instant digital download, all sales are final, but reply to your receipt email if anything isn't working and we'll fix it.
