I’ve traveled to different countries around the world and used public transportation in many of them — but personally, I’ve never found a train system as confusing as Tokyo’s.

And I actually didn’t realize how big of a problem this was for travelers until I started working as a private guide in Tokyo.

I’ve had guests of all different ages tell me that one of their biggest concerns wasn’t just where to eat, what neighborhoods to explore, or how to experience the authentic side of Tokyo.

It was simply:

“I don’t understand the trains.”

Some guests have even specifically asked me to set aside a good amount of our tour time just to teach them how to navigate Tokyo’s train system — how to read Google Maps, understand the different lines, use Suica, buy tickets, find the right platform, and know what to do once they’re actually inside a huge station.

That’s when I realized:

Travelers genuinely need this.

So I took what I normally explain to my guests in person and turned it into the Tokyo Train Survival Guide — a 24-page practical guide created specifically for international travelers.
