The Last Logbook No. 3 — The Flannan Isles: The Logbook That Was Never Written
In December 1900, three lighthouse keepers vanished from Eilean Mòr, a rock twenty miles west of the Outer Hebrides. When the relief ship arrived on Boxing Day, the station was empty: the beds as the men had left them that morning, the clocks stopped, two sets of oilskins gone — and one coat still hanging on its hook.
Almost everything people believe about what happened next comes from a poem written twelve years later and from logbook entries that have never been found in any record.
This is the companion book to Episode 3 of The Last Logbook, and Part 1 of Lost at Sea. It goes back to the documents.
61 pages. PDF and EPUB included.
Inside:
- The afternoon of 26 December 1900, told from the relief keeper's own letter
- The rock, the light and a keeper's life, from the building of the station in 1895
- Everyone involved, from the three keepers to the poet who rewrote their story
- The telegram, Joseph Moore's letter and Superintendent Muirhead's report, quoted in their own words
- Eleven pieces of evidence, each with what it shows and what it does not
- The legend and the record side by side: where the fake logbook and the untouched meal came from
- Five explanations weighed against the evidence, and a clearly labelled reconstruction
- What is still unknown, and the full source list
Written the same way the episode is: nothing invented, the gaps left as gaps, and the difference between evidence and story kept visible on every page.
