Spy Escape Room for Grades 3-6: Silver Owl Agency Classroom Edition | Printable Team Puzzle Activity
Turn your classroom into a spy school! Your students are trainee agents at the Silver Owl Agency, a made-up spy academy. To earn their agent badges, each team must open the Gadget Vault, which Director Wren locked with a secret 5-digit code.
Teams of 3-5 work through 8 puzzles: a shift-code message, fingerprint matching, a laser-hallway maze, a Morse code radio signal, a "who has which gadget?" logic grid, a spot-the-difference security camera, a vault order memo, and the final vault lock. The lock card has a built-in self-check (the digits add up to a set number), so teams know if they're on track before they whisper the code to you.
It's built for a class of 20-30 (about 5-10 teams) and fits one 45-60 minute period. Black-and-white printing works (one puzzle has a single color difference, and the teacher guide explains how to handle it in B&W).
What students practice (an honest summary; not formally aligned to any state or Common Core standard):
• Following multi-step directions (shift code)
• Close visual comparison (fingerprints, spot the difference)
• Spatial reasoning (maze)
• Using a reference chart (Morse code)
• Deductive logic (logic grid, order memo)
• Addition and checking work (vault sum)
• Teamwork, roles, and communication
You get (20 pages):
• 2-page teacher guide: grouping for 20-30 students, roles, materials, prep checklist, a minute-by-minute timeline, a shorter-class option, code-checking tips, a read-aloud mission briefing, and debrief questions
• Envelope labels and agent ID cards (8 per page)
• Team Record Sheet
• 8 puzzles plus a decoder chart (the Morse chart is on the radio puzzle page)
• Tiered hint cards (2 pages: a nudge, bigger help, and the solution for each puzzle)
• A full answer key with the solved maze
• A "Vault Open!" reveal page and a Secret Agent certificate
Good for Fun Friday, the days before a break, early finishers, team-building, and indoor recess. Grades 3-6. Grade 3 teams may need the bigger hints.
