You are the Wolf King’s Son, for good and bad. Your father is the Wolf King of Winter, the werewolf, the war-wolf, father of terror and of orphans. You left his court with hard words and now you’re on your own, afoot, in fairyland.

The Wolf King's Son

The Wolf King’s Son is a casual tabletop role-playing game. It’s an episodic coming-of-age story about identity, danger, and making your way in a world wider and more complex than your childhood prepared you for.

The object of the game is to throw yourself into situations, to try on roles, and perhaps to discover both the core and the boundaries of your self. You might not be able to do it, though, because selves are never concrete, and how can you find the core and the boundaries of what has no boundaries and no core?

Your Friends

You're on your own from your father's court, but you're not alone. You've got friends...

  • A Briar Elf: You are a Briar Elf, a fairy of thorns, vines, flowers, and berries. You’ve fallen for the Wolf King’s Son, maybe, or maybe you just find them funny, nice, intense, and cute. Either way, when you like someone, you’re not the kind to show it.
  • A Graveyard Bird: You are a Graveyard Bird, a big raven fairy. You’re drawn to the Wolf King’s Son because of their potential for violence (you don’t love violence, but you do love a full belly) and their closeness to power. If they come to trust you, maybe you can send them down the paths that you prefer.
  • A Young Witch: You are a Young Witch, a mortal human being studying witchcraft. You’re drawn to the Wolf King’s Son for what you can learn from them, thoughtful as they are, prince of elemental nature that they are — but you’re afraid of them as well. Should you be?

The Game

The Wolf King's Son is episodic. Each episode is a single adventure, a single story, even a single encounter or a joke. You can string them together into a longer story with many episodes if you like, or you can let each adventure stand on its own.

It's an ensemble. The game's about you, the Wolf King's Son, but even you don't need to appear in every episode. Let's find out what happened when the Graveyard Bird went behind your back to your father, the Wolf King of Winter. Let's find out where the Young Witch went while you were off roving with the fox and the stoat! Every player can get their turn in the spotlight.

It's flexible. It's designed for easy, trade-off GMing and lively audience participation. Everyone can play, even if they can't make it to every session.

It's fearless. It's a fun, easygoing, adventure-minded game, but it's not afraid to take on meaningful themes. As the Wolf King's Son, you've inherited a capacity for violence you didn't ask for, and you haven't settled yet how it fits into your identity. The rules are designed with a backbone of consent and clear communication that lets you throw yourself into situations you aren't ready for, show vulnerability safely, and face challenges with an open heart.
