Concerned about copyright? Don't be. Memes are fair use as well as covered under parody. My mom (yes really, we're talking about my mom now lol) is actually an IP attorney so I do pay attention. You can also use Disney as a bellwether as they are notoriously protective over their IP and yet no take down notices or lawsuits have been served over Disney memes.
I wouldn't slap your book cover on a meme and run ads with it (although memes do have ad applications, just not with our books on them) and there are some out there using proprietary art that I try to avoid, but otherwise memes are fine to use. I also do make my own as well.
But note, the key distinction in what I'm doing is I'm not just grabbing memes off the internet blindly like a VA or PA might, I am curating them based on performance and the zeitgeist. Anyone can give you a meme, not everyone knows how the meme should perform. I do. I'm literally a bestselling author with a meme problem, okay? Like, I know book marketing, and I love memes.
