AI Meeting Notes to Action Items Kit for n8n: Only Tasks Someone Actually Committed To

Meeting summarizers love turning "we talked about the budget" into a task with your name on it. This n8n workflow keeps only the action items where a named person took something on, with the deadline exactly as it was said and the sentence it came from.

WHAT IT DOES

• Finds action items with a named owner and a stated task. Topics that were only discussed are left out

• Keeps deadlines word for word ("by Friday", "end of day tomorrow") or leaves them empty. It never calculates a date

• Checks every item in code: its quote must appear word for word in your transcript, otherwise it is dropped and listed under "warnings"

• Builds a task-card title for each item, ready to paste into Trello, Asana or any task tool

• Answers with clean JSON and logs one row per item to a Google Sheet (optional; the answer never waits for the log)

HOW IT WAS TESTED

End to end on clean n8n 1.123 and 2.41 installs with Claude Haiku 4.5, three full runs each. The test transcript had 4 real commitments and 3 traps ("redo the logo at some point", "someone should look into the newsletter tool", "leave the budget for next month"). Every run returned the 4 commitments with deadlines word for word and none of the traps. A chat with no commitments returned zero items.

WHAT YOU NEED (not included)

• n8n: n8n Cloud or self-hosted, version 1.x or 2.x

• An Anthropic API key with credit (console.anthropic.com). Measured: about 2 cents for a one-hour transcript.

• A transcript as text (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Otter and Fireflies exports all work)

• Optional: a Google account for the log sheet

FAQ

Does it join or record my meetings?

No. You send it a transcript you already have.

What if nobody committed to anything?

You get zero items. That's the honest answer, not an error.

What does it cost to run?

Your n8n plan plus Anthropic API usage, about 2 cents per one-hour meeting (measured). No subscription to us.

Can it create the tasks in Trello or Asana for me?

Not out of the box. Each item comes as JSON, so you can add a Trello, Asana or Notion node after the webhook answer in a few clicks.

Do you see my transcripts?

No. It runs on your n8n with your own key.
