Adolphe-Léopold Danhauser (1835–1896) was a French composer, music theorist, and educator, best known for his influential work in music pedagogy. He taught at the Paris Conservatoire and authored the widely used Théorie de la musique, a foundational text for generations of French music students. His compositions often reflected his educational mission - accessible, melodically engaging, and rich in character.

Le Rossignol et la Grenouille (The Nightingale and the Frog), was first published in 1874 as part of Danhauser’s collection Les matinées orphéoniques. The music playfully contrasts the lyrical elegance of the nightingale with the croaky interjections of the frog.
