In this Winter Rabbit in the Snow art lesson, students use pencil crayons and paint to create a snowy landscape with a rabbit nestled in the winter scene. It is a low-prep lesson for elementary and middle school students.

With step-by-step guidance, students layer color, create depth with shading and add texture with paint to bring their rabbit to life. It works as a seasonal project, a winter bulletin board display or a relaxing art activity.

WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING

★★★★ “This lesson had great results. It was wonderful for students who have low confidence in their art skills. The step-by-step handout was perfect for students who were absent or wanted to go at their own pace instead of along with the class. Even students who put little effort into their work tried their best.” Lisa W.

HOW TO USE IT

Read the lesson plan first to see the steps and gather the materials in advance. Look over the visual and text step-by-steps, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Photocopy the step-by-step handouts and rubrics before the lesson.

Print the poster sample in color and show it to students before you start, as your hook. Then project the PDF on a digital projector or under a document camera for students to follow, or use it as your own guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description.
