They left him alone on a lost Pacific island. Everyone believes he’s dead. Everyone except his daughter.

Martín Arriaga is a mechanic from Mazatlán, Mexico, with mounting debts and a fifteen-year-old daughter who no longer answers his messages. Hoping for a fresh start, he signs on as the engineer of a luxury catamaran bound for Tahiti. But when he goes ashore alone on remote Isla Solitaria to fetch water, a storm hits, and the boat’s owner pulls up anchor and leaves him behind. Then he tells the authorities Martín fell overboard.

With no water, no fire, and two thousand kilometers from the coast, Martín has to learn to survive. In the ruins of an old garrison he finds an unexpected companion: the diary of Alicia, a woman who was forgotten on the same island more than a hundred years ago. Her pages teach him where to find water, how to make fire, and above all, how not to give up.

Meanwhile, back in Mazatlán, his daughter Lucía refuses to believe the official story. She’s ready to move heaven and earth to bring him home.

A novel of adventure, survival, and hope, loosely inspired by a real and little-known chapter of Mexican history, about a father who learns to stay and a daughter who never stops searching.
