About the Checkpoint Connected Curriculum

The Checkpoint Connected Curriculum is designed for Key Stage 2 and provides ready-to-teach lessons that introduce climate, sustainability and systems thinking in a structured, age-appropriate way.

Rather than presenting isolated facts or one-off activities, the curriculum focuses on deep, interconnected concepts. Pupils are supported to ask questions, recognise patterns, and understand how human choices interact with natural systems over time.

Lessons are delivered through clear, dialogic teaching scripts, reducing preparation time while embedding professional development directly into classroom practice.

Why teachers choose the Concept lessons

  • Systemic understanding
  • Pupils develop a coherent mental model of climate and sustainability, rather than fragmented knowledge.
  • Guided discovery
  • Structured dialogue supports questioning, discussion and critical thinking
  • Accessible science
  • Complex ideas are introduced through simple models and analogies mapped to Key Stage 2
  • Student agency without burden
  • Pupils explore responsibility and impact without placing blame or unrealistic expectations on children.
  • Built-in CPD
  • Lessons are practical for all teachers, regardless of subject specialism or prior experience.

  • UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Partner
  • Aligned with UNESCO principles including systems thinking, critical evaluation and participatory pedagogy
