Migration is an asymmetrical triangular shawl. It is knit in sections of 2-colour brioche separated by sections of tuck stitches giving the impression of detailed diagonal stripes against a plain background. The chevron motif along the bind off creates a picot edge effect.⁣

The shawl uses a variation on Tuck Stitch #8 from Nancy Marchant’s book Tuck Stitches and a variation on a stitch pattern called Gulls from Nancy’s Knitting Fresh Brioche.⁣

Materials:
• Fingering weight yarn in two colours, MC and CC, approximately 350m (380yds) of each.
• 4mm/US 6 circular needles with a 80cm/32” or longer cable.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Size of finished shawl:
Length 160cm/63”, width 75cm/29.5”, relaxed after blocking.

Gauge:
Obtaining gauge is not essential, as long as you are happy with the fabric you are getting. Different gauge will affect the size of the finished object and the amount of yarn used.

The sample shawl had a gauge of 25 stitches and 20 rows in the tuck stitch pattern in a 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”) square, after blocking.

This pattern was originally published in yarnpeople Issue 2: Brioche +.

Stitch abbreviations and chart symbols are based on those developed by Nancy Marchant.
