Owen is seven. It is 5:40 on a weekday, he hasn't eaten since lunch, and the candy is at eye level for a reason. You said no. Now he is on the floor and the whole checkout line is watching. Home is hard enough. Public is harder, because you are working with somebody else's rules and a room full of strangers. This plan is only about going out.

What's included:

• A before you go checklist: timing, the plan out loud, the bag, a job for your kid, and your exit

• The checkout line, step by step

• How to leave without a fight

• A fill in outing plan and an outing tracker

• A short note for the parent about their own reset

How I'd use it:

Teachers, this is the one to send home when a family tells you they have stopped going places. Leaving the cart is allowed. That one line has helped more families than anything else on the page.

It is written for parents, in plain words, with a seven year old named Owen walking through the hard parts. Nothing in it asks a parent to be perfect. It asks them to plan the trip, keep it short, know the exit, and leave on purpose instead of in a panic. The cards for strangers are small enough to keep in a wallet. Most parents never hand one out, but knowing it is there helps.

Who it's for: Parents and caregivers. Any grade level, including homeschool.

What you download: one printable PDF, 4 pages, US Letter.

This is an educational resource. It does not replace your school's crisis plan, safety procedures, or any training your district requires.
