Check every CIS deduction a contractor takes off you, match it to your monthly statements, and get a rough idea of your refund (or what's still to pay) for the 2026/27 tax year.

Made for UK subbies paid under the Construction Industry Scheme: electricians, plumbers, joiners, bricklayers, plasterers, groundworkers, roofers, decorators and anyone else in the trade.

WHAT'S INSIDE

• One spreadsheet with a Start Here tab to get you going

• Contractors: up to 20 contractors, each with their CIS rate (20% registered, 30% not registered or not verified, 0% gross payment). Not-verified contractors are flagged in orange

• Payments: up to 400 invoices or payments. Split each one into labour, materials, plant/consumables/fuel and VAT, and it works out the CIS they should take (on the labour only), what you should get and what you actually got. Any difference is flagged

• Tax month worked out for every payment (tax months run from the 6th to the 5th)

• Statements: log each monthly CIS statement and it checks the figure against your payments, with the date it should have reached you (within 14 days of the tax month ending)

• Summary: year totals for your tax return (total pay before CIS, materials, CIS deducted), plus breakdowns by contractor and by tax month

• Refund Estimate: a rough guide to income tax and Class 4 NI on your profit, minus the CIS already taken, so you know if you're likely to be owed money back or still have some to pay

• 2026/27 rates tab with links to the GOV.UK pages they came from

• Example figures already filled in so you can see how it works. Delete them and add your own

• No macros, just standard formulas

HOW IT WORKS

• Instant digital download. Nothing is posted.

• Opens in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets (upload to Drive, then open with Google Sheets) and LibreOffice.

• Cream cells are for your figures; everything else works itself out.

PLEASE NOTE

• Personal licence: use it in your own business as much as you like. Please don't resell or share the file.

• Set up for the 2026/27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027).

• The refund estimate uses the rates for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scottish income tax bands are different. It assumes this is your only income and leaves out things like student loan repayments, payments on account and other reliefs.

• It's a record-keeping and planning tool, not tax advice. HMRC works out the real figure from your tax return. If you're not sure, check GOV.UK or ask an accountant.
