EPISODE 8: EMBRACE THE REWRITE: THE REAL WRITING IS IN THE REWRITING
Pamela opens by reframing revision not as a punishment for a flawed first draft, but as proof you're a serious writer.
Welcome to Episode 8
The writers you admire most didn't publish their first drafts. They rewrote them. Sometimes dozens of times. This episode is about learning to embrace that process.
I love the sense of accomplishment of having a first draft that I can hold in my hands. I always print out my 300-plus-page manuscript and set it on my desk, giving myself a mental pat on the back for finally getting to this step.
But now it's time for the real work: rewriting. This is the part of the writing process I enjoy most, and hopefully, you will too. It's now time to roll up your sleeves, dig deep into your vault of creativity, and make your manuscript shine.
Shift Your Mindset: It's Time to be Critical.
If the last episode was about silencing your inner critic, this episode is about inviting that voice back in—thoughtfully and strategically.
Having to revise your book is not a sign that your first draft failed. It's a sign that you're a serious writer. Every great book you've ever read went through this process. Now it's your turn.
The goal of revision is not to protect what you've written. It's to make the book as good as it can possibly be, which may mean changing or deleting what you've written.
