Published for the first time as a digital release, an underground railroad is both a poem and illustrations - "an illustrated poem".

The idea for the poem came to Tom as a result of living along one of the most travelled sections of the underground railroad in Pennsylvania. The town of Columbia, situated along the Susquehanna River is a hotbed of stories and clues to the wonderful telling of a way people made for others to escape yet another tragedy and trauma of human greed and hate.

The idea to illustrate it came out of one of our monthly poet's group where we read poems to each other and make suggestions and observations. The challenge was laid out that it sounded like a fine piece to illustrate for children (and adults).
