The Freeman Legacy Saga: Educator Edition
Seven novels. One family. The soldiers the record left out.
After the Civil War, Congress opened the peacetime Army to Black men. The Freeman Legacy Saga follows one invented Kansas family through four generations of that service: the Ninth and Tenth Cavalry on the frontier, the Twenty-fifth Infantry at El Caney, the Brownsville discharges of 1906, Houston in 1917, and the Twenty-fourth Infantry in Korea. Every book is told by Thomas Freeman, writing about 1985 from a cedar chest of family records, who tells the reader where he keeps the record and where he builds from it.
This Educator Edition gives teachers everything they need to teach one novel or all seven, and to teach students how history is made, kept, and lost.
