LAURENT DE RILLÉ was a 19th-century French composer and arranger whose works often reflected the spirited character of the Romantic era. Though not widely known today, he contributed to the genre of secular choral music and light instrumental pieces. One of his notable compositions is L’Assaut (“The Attack”), originally published in 1869 as a secular chorus for male voices. The piece captures a dramatic and martial energy typical of patriotic or ceremonial music of the time.
