Wonderful Weeds of Crete - Edibles - Fagaceae

The Fagaceae, or the beech family of plants, contains over 1,000 species worldwide. In Crete, we are blessed with the presence of two majestic genera, the Quercus (Oak) which is represented by four species, and the Castanea (Chestnut) which is represented by one species. All five of these produce ample quantities of edible parts,while also providing basic materials for many other things.
