Peaceful. Calming. Soothing. When asked why we knit, these are often some of the words that come to mind. We knit to relax; we knit to slow our thoughts; we knit to allow our minds to wander. Eirene, the ancient Greek goddess of peace, perfectly emulates my view of the relaxing nature of knitting.
A crescent shawl, knit bottom-up with a lace border and shaped with short rows, Eirene is the perfect piece for evoking peace. Consisting of a simple lace worked only on the RS, and a garter stitch body with easy short rows, you may find yourself drifting off into a meditative state as you knit, though there is plenty of interest in the stitches which will capture and hold your attention.
