Ernest A. Dicks (1865–1948) was an English organist, choirmaster, and composer best remembered for his contemplative sacred works, including Evensong, a lyrical piece often performed in church services and organ recitals.

Ernest Dicks published this piece, originally for organ, in 1915. It was written to be performed during the Evensong Service. Music plays a central role in the Evensong service, providing a means of worship that is both communal and individual. Evensong reflects the English Romantic organ tradition’s emphasis on devotion, atmosphere, and lyrical beauty.
