What Still Remains? — Loss, Regret & Perspective Worksheet
Help clients acknowledge what has been lost without losing sight of what still remains.
What Still Remains? is a visual therapy worksheet designed to help clients explore loss, disappointment, regret, and worry while gently widening their attention toward the people, strengths, resources, and possibilities that are still present.
Rather than pushing clients toward positive thinking or minimizing painful experiences, the worksheet begins by giving space to what hurts before asking the client to consider a broader picture.
The worksheet guides clients through four steps:
• What Was Lost / What Hurts — Identify what happened, what was lost or regretted, and how the experience has affected them.
• What Still Remains — Explore existing relationships, resources, personal strengths, opportunities, and lessons.
• Where Is Your Attention Right Now? — Use a visual exercise with spilled and standing cups to represent losses and what remains.
• Shifting Your Focus — Identify one part of life that deserves more attention without dismissing the loss.
Useful for exploring: grief, loss, regret, disappointment, relationship changes, rejection, missed opportunities, major life transitions, and situations in which painful experiences have begun to dominate a client's attention.
Designed for: Mental health professionals, counselors, social workers, behavioral health providers, and other helping professionals.
Format: 1-page downloadable PDF worksheet.
For professional use. This resource supports reflection and therapeutic discussion and does not replace individualized assessment, professional judgment, or treatment.
