Get my Get While the Getting’s Good (A Jewish Country Song )
Lyrics: Judie Troyansky
Music: Roberta Pescow
Vocals: Roberta Pescow
Guitar: Jim Baldessari
"What does an author do when they want to procrastinate? They write a country song.
The lyrics of this song started as a question on Facebook. Someone asked if last year’s Matzo would be stale. Another person said that the phrase sounded like the beginnings of a country song. And, since I was avoiding working on editing my novel, my brain yelled, “Challenge accepted.”
The melody and vocals are performed by the talented Roberta Pescow and the guitarist is Jim Baldessari. I hope you enjoy our Jewish country song."-- Judie
(Verse 1)
I’ve had it with your kvetching
And your muddy boot prints on the floor
The only thing that you’ve been kissing
Is that old mezuzah on the door
I’ve worked at being patient
But I can’t take it anymore
(Chorus)
You’ve grown as stale
As last year’s matzoh
You’re harder than your Bubby’s matzoh balls
Angels sometimes fly but us humans sometimes fall
And I don’t know if you’ll get this
But I somehow hoped you would
See I’m gonna get my get while the getting’s good
(Verse 2)
No one’s waiting in the wings
I’m done being somebody’s old wife
I know the sea is full of fish
But I’m done being gefilted by your strife
Why wait for Rosh Hashanah
To start this chapter of my life
(Verse 3.)
You’re right I will not listen
As you just project the same old fear
Each day ain’t Simchas Torah
And there’s no ham sandwiches and beer
I’m starting my life over
No Purim masks to hide a single tear
