Loopy Bottom Redux - Hand Knitting Pattern PDF
Loopy Bottom Redux
A total overhaul of a very early design which deserved new life!
This unique, fun cowl is knit as one piece. The edging is **not** knit separately and applied, as with other similar look patterns.
Swirling loops adorn the lower edge of a plain stockinette collar band with a rolled upper edge.
Options for 2 or 3 buttons in height, with fat or regular loops.
Worked flat, bottom up, from a long CO (292 sts) onto circular needles, that gets decreased to just 72 stitches within 5 - 7 rows.
Written line-by-line abbreviated instructions.
Established Beginner Skill Level.
Knowledge: Long-tail cast on, bind off, knit, knit 2 together (buttonholes), purl, slipped stitches (Selvages), yarn over (buttonholes), Cable (just one row to layer the loops).
Piece does not require blocking – dry cleaning recommended.

Unblocked Stockinette Stitch
15.5 stitches by 22 rows = 4” (10 cm) Square
With Mecha on US 10 (6 mm) Needles
to
13.5 stitches by 19 rows = 4” (10 cm) Square
With Chunky on US 10.5 (6.5 mm) Needles
NOTES
Straight Needle is optional, I found it helped keep the loops from twisting.
Cable Needle is optional, overlap loops using a DPN, safety pin or just drop them, they don't unravel easily.
The Bulky yarn designation has a wide range of thickness, please pair needles and yarn to get a fabric you like... Circumference and gauge may vary within the ranges given above. Please see the image at bottom for the exact measurements of my 2 samples.
