A Breath of Hope
He Sees Me: A Glimpse Inside Your New Devotional and my personal journey…
Day 1: He Sees Me
Psalm 34:4: “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Reflection:
Becoming a transplant patient was not part of my plan for my life. I was your average person, stuck in the routine of life—wake up, go to work, come home, watch TV, sleep, repeat. Life felt like a treadmill I couldn’t step off. Then came a marriage I thought would bring stability, but instead brought quiet pain behind closed doors. Emotional, mental, and spiritual abuse became my daily norm. I started to believe I was worthless.
Then came the symptoms—itching, fatigue, tests with no answers. At the age of 31, I was diagnosed with PSC, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis: an autoimmune disease attacking my liver. No drugs, no alcohol—just something deep inside me betraying itself. The itching was relentless, sometimes bleeding, robbing me of sleep and sanity. Even with a diagnosis, there was no relief.
At 33, I found myself getting a divorce and moving back home, and at the same time my liver began to fail. I was beginning to turn yellow, constantly weak, and always exhausted. Doctors ran every test they could, tried everything they could but nothing was helping. A partial transplant seemed like the best chance, but finding a match with my blood type and size was nearly impossible. Until it wasn’t.
I got the call. Five days later, everything changed. Just as quickly as the hope came, so did the fear.
Months later, my body began rejecting the liver. Why would God allow this after all I’d been through? I didn't have the answer to that. But here’s what I did know: God didn’t abandon me. He saw me from the beginning. Through every unanswered test, every sleepless night, every broken piece—He was working, preparing, strengthening. And He’s still here.
Encouragement:
You may feel overlooked, betrayed by your body or stuck in cycles you didn’t choose. But God sees you. He hasn’t left. He’s still the One who delivers—sometimes not from the pain, but through it.
