As I worked on this late winter design, the birds were in full motion outside my window. We keep our bird feeders full, so replenishing them is a constant but joyous chore. I’ve always dreamed of designing a sweater with a seed stitch yoke, and I couldn’t help but think of birdseed as this garment came together.

Birdseed features a wide neckline with a seed stitch yoke that fades into stockinette. The long sleeves are slightly billowy; short sleeves are also an option. It is intended to fit with little to no ease, but sizing up will lend more ease. This pattern is designed for 19 sizes. For better clarity, tables with stitch and repeat counts, as well as measurements, are provided throughout the instructions. The Birdseed Chart depicts the transition from seed stitch to stockinette in the yoke, and written instructions for the chart are included.
