Georgia O Keeffe Art Project Art And Write Art Lesson Artist Study Art Activity
This Georgia O Keeffe Art and Write resource is an artist study lesson where students learn about Georgia O Keeffe, explore her oversized flower paintings and create their own bold Georgia O Keeffe inspired flower artwork. They then keep the learning going with writing, artist statements, reflection pages and an exit ticket.
It is made for teachers, art teachers and homeschoolers who want to bring art and literacy together, and it suits upper elementary art, middle school art, homeschool art, artist study units and sub plans. Students follow a step-by-step tutorial but still make their own choices, so the finished flowers do not all look the same.

HOW TO USE IT
Students begin with the Warm-Up Art Challenge, creating a flower inspired by O Keeffe's style. Next they read about the artist, including her large-scale flower paintings, her bold color and how she helped people look more closely at flowers and nature. Then they create their flower artwork using the tutorial, which you can model yourself or project for the whole class. The Quick-Pick Reference Images let students choose different flower shapes, leaf shapes and background designs.
After the art is finished, students respond through The Message, Artwork Reflection, Artist's Statement and the Exit Ticket, plus Non-Fiction, Fiction and Opinion writing with planning pages to organize their ideas first. The example uses oil pastel and watercolor paint, but you can adapt it to the supplies you have.
