Sugar Mami
Sugar Mami
By Don Shaze
Darren is twenty-five, talented, ambitious, and broke.
In Atlanta, his dream of becoming a successful musician is slipping further away with every unpaid bill. His apartment is on the verge of eviction, his car is nearly gone, and his dead-end job barely keeps food on the table. The streets he left behind are calling his name again—but Darren refuses to go backward.
Then his two best friends, Mal and Zay, pull him out of his depression with an all-expenses-paid vacation to Rio de Janeiro.
Darren expects beautiful beaches, music, nightlife, and two weeks away from his problems. What he doesn't expect is Milan.
At fifty-two, Milan is wealthy, sophisticated, beautiful, and seemingly has everything a woman could want. But behind the luxury is a lonely widow who hasn't allowed another man into her heart—or her bed—since losing her husband three years earlier. Her friends keep telling her she needs companionship, but Milan has convinced herself that love is no longer meant for her.
Then a younger stranger with warm brown eyes, wavy hair, tattoos, and an effortless charm spills into her life.
What begins with an accidental drink spill turns into long conversations, unforgettable nights, laughter, dancing, and a connection neither of them expected. Darren doesn't know Milan's financial status, and Milan doesn't care about Darren's.
For two weeks in Rio, they forget about age, money, grief, and the lives waiting for them back home.
But vacations end.
A month after Darren returns to Atlanta, Milan sends him a package containing $2,000 and a message asking him to stay in her life. Soon, what began as a friendship becomes an unconventional arrangement: Milan wants Darren's companionship, and in return, she offers him a life-changing $2,000 a week.
His friends have only one name for her:
Sugar Mami.
With Milan's support, Darren finally gets the equipment he needs, builds his studio, and starts turning his music into a real career. Then his past comes knocking when his ex, Stacy, suddenly wants him back.
Milan's affection turns into jealousy.
Her jealousy turns into possessiveness.
And her desire to keep Darren begins pushing the boundaries of love.
As Darren's music finally reaches the radio and his dreams begin coming true, he finds himself caught between the woman who gave him a second chance and the freedom he refuses to surrender.
Because Milan may have started as his Sugar Mami...
But somewhere between the money, the arguments, the passion, the laughter, and the late-night conversations, Darren may have fallen in love with her.
Now he has to figure out whether Milan rescued him from the life he was trying to escape—or quietly built a beautiful cage around him.
Sugar Mami is a sensual, emotional love drama about age, desire, grief, ambition, money, jealousy, and discovering that sometimes the most complicated love stories begin when neither person is looking for love.
