SETTING AS A CHARACTER

A Mini-Intensive Workshop

Saturday November 21, 2026 at 1pm NZT

(Friday November 20, 2026 at 7pm ET)

The setting of a story helps to ground the action within a time and space. However, we can also use the setting to build on emotion and feeling within the story context. Time to transform our settings into a character of their own, enhancing the reader experience.

  • Develop a setting using the five senses.
  • Understand how topography will impact characters' actions.
  • Craft a setting that conveys backstory subtext.

This session is an interactive online workshop, where participants will be encouraged to apply the concepts and idea by way of exercises and examples.

The live session will be hosted on Zoom.
