When God Is Silent: A 30-Day Devotional for the Quiet Seasons of Faith and Marriage
You know God can. But will He?
For husbands and wives still praying, and tired · ten minutes a day for thirty days.
You know God can. You just don’t know if He will.
You’re still praying, but you’re tired. Heaven feels quiet, and so does your home.
And some nights you fear your questions mean your faith is failing.
The Psalms are full of prayers like these. God kept them in His book, and you are not alone.
When the silence starts to sound like a verdict
A long quiet season can wear a person down. You pretend you’re fine with God. You wonder if you are being punished. Maybe someone has even told you so. Waiting begins to feel like giving up, and you are too tired to find the words to pray.
Thirty days of honest company
When God Is Silent is a 30-day devotional for the dry seasons of faith and marriage. Each day takes about ten minutes: one KJV verse, a short reflection, a prayer you can borrow, one small step, and one question to write about.
It doesn’t explain the silence away, and it doesn’t promise when it will break. It sits with you, in the Psalms and in honest prayer, and helps you take one small, faithful step each day.
Inside, you’ll discover…
- You are not the first: the prayers of “How long?” and “Why?” that God kept in His own book
- The psalm that ends in the dark: why Psalm 88 has no happy ending, and why that is a gift to you
- Hannah’s bitter prayer, and what it means to pour out everything to God
- Alone in the same room: for the season when heaven is quiet and your home is too
- Job’s friends were wrong, and God said so: why silence is not the same as punishment
- When your heart condemns you: how to quiet the accusing voice
- Bread and sleep under the tree: what Elijah needed before he could hear the still small voice
- Habakkuk on the watchtower: how to wait without giving up, and your own “Prayers I’m Still Waiting On” log
- Praying for a spouse who won’t pray: blessings with no demand for change, and a heart kept soft
- When you have no words: twelve short prayers for the days words run out
- Is this a dry season, or is it depression? The honest difference, and when to see a doctor
- Hope that is not seen: honest hope that doesn’t need a guarantee

This devotional is not for you yet if…
You are afraid of your spouse or have had thoughts of death. Please start with safety and tell someone today. No prayer in this book asks you to stay in danger.
Sometimes what feels like God’s silence is partly an illness of the body or mind, such as depression. That is not a failure of faith. If you can’t sleep, eat or get through the day, please see a doctor.

A note from the author
Many of you wrote, “God seems silent.” Some of you added, “I’m still praying, but I’m tired.”
In one of our videos, I said a devotional with this name was on its way. It took longer than it should have, because I wanted it to be honest, and honest words take time.
This devotional won’t tell you that God is silent because you are being punished. It won’t promise that the right words will change your spouse by Friday. And it won’t shame you for your questions. The Bible doesn’t either. For thirty days, it simply sits with you, in the Psalms and in honest prayer.
I can’t promise that the silence will break in thirty days. I can promise that you won’t walk through these days alone.

Questions you may have
Is it only for married people?
No. It is written with marriage in mind, because so many of you pray for your marriage, but it is for anyone in a dry season with God: married, widowed, separated or single.
Will it tell me why God is silent?
It won’t pretend to know what only God knows. It shows you what Scripture says about a God who is near even when He feels hidden, and it gives you honest words for the waiting.
Can my spouse and I read it together?
Yes, if your spouse is willing. Read the same day separately and share one sentence about it at dinner. Please never use a page of this book to correct your spouse; it is a place to bring your own heart to God.
Do I have to do it in thirty days?
No. Each day takes about ten minutes. If you miss a day, simply pick up where you left off. Grace does not keep score.
Is it a physical book? Can I print it?
It is an instant PDF download for a phone, tablet or computer. A printer-friendly edition is included, so you can print the worksheets, the tracker and the twelve prayer cards. Nothing is posted to your home.
What if this is more than a dry season?
The "When to Get More Help" pages explain the difference between a dry season and depression, and when to see a doctor, a pastor or a counselor. If you have had thoughts of death, please call or text 988 (US) or visit findahelpline.com today.
