Care Staff Training Pack: Respect at Work in Care (Harassment)
"He can't help it" is not the end of the conversation.
Carers put up with more than almost any other workforce, and report less, because they feel guilty. This 45-minute session changes that. It is written for carers, in plain, warm language, and every example is a care one: the client with dementia during personal care, the client's son with the carer's phone number, the resident's daughter on the night shift, the family camera, the request for "no carers who are...".
It covers:
- it is not part of the job, and why the law now says so
- a condition explains behaviour, it does not excuse it: the two tracks
- you can step away: how to do it safely and finish essential care
- lone visits: check-ins, two code phrases, the exit, cameras, dogs, alcohol
- families, friends and visitors count too
- discriminatory requests: we will not move you off a client because of who you are
- how to report, protection from victimisation, and where to get help
- two interactive activities with answers
