Autumn Art Lesson Pumpkin Line Art Project Fall Art Activity Pumpkin Activity
In this Autumn Pumpkin Art Project, students create a large pumpkin filled with different line designs and patterns against a swirling fall background. They use paint, paper and oil pastel to make a mixed media artwork that explores a variety of ways to use line in art.
The lesson is designed for grades 1 to 4 and comes as a non-editable PDF. Students divide the pumpkin into sections and fill each one with a different line pattern, and the blue background with blended white swirls makes the final artwork stand out. It is easy to organize and gives a strong finished result during the busy fall season.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
Students explore line, pattern, contrast, mixed media, composition and seasonal imagery in one lesson. Filling each section of the pumpkin with different lines helps them explore variety, repetition and visual interest.
It is also a good way to introduce the idea that line can be expressive and decorative, not only something used to outline a shape. The finished pumpkins, with their strong contrast and repeated patterns, look bright on a fall bulletin board.
