Beware the thorn hedges of doubt! –
You may have an inkling of the place of light, just as a nocturnal wanderer through the early morning mists already intuits that spot in the sky where the day star will soon light up.
But between you and that place the thornbush of ever-renewing doubts takes root...
No matter how many you may eradicate, as many will grow again.

Do not waste your time in foolish deeds!
You would never - not in eternity - be able to make any progress if you dared to uproot the thorn hedges of doubt! –
Only your persistent courage can help here.
Stride forward powerfully and confidently, even if your feet bleed from a thousand vanity wounds!
Your foot must be clean if the one eternal Master, who is Master in each of us, is to let you tread the clear crystalline steps that lead to the halls of worship in spirit and in truth.
Your foot only becomes "clean" when it has been cleansed in your own blood...

Thousands have sought the way to the light and doubts got stuck in the thorn hedges because the seeker's selfish vanity did not allow them to go further without being able to remove the thorns beforehand.
You, o seeker, do not be like these!
