Celtic Thistle Unicorn Shawl

Introduction -
This shawl has a very strong Scottish background, as the Unicorn is the national animal of Scotland and the Thistle is the national flower. It makes a grand entrance for a new shawl technique that uses a center cast on to show off those vibrant gradient yarns to full effect.

Equipment -

·        800 yards of Main Color and 800 yards of Contrasting Color (1600 yards total) of Canon Hand Dyes Oscar Sparkle Sock. 2 matching gradient skeins and 2 matching solid skeins are recommended.

·        ~40 Stitch markers

·        47”- 60” US 1 (2.25) (if you knit loose) or US 2 (2.75 mm) (if you knit tight) needles – or size needed to obtain gauge. You may want two sets of needles if you prefer to work without scrunching up your project.

Gauge -

28 stitches and 38 rows - 4” or 10 cm
This is one of those rare times that I’m going to say that gauge is vital to this project, as is blocking. Yes. Blocking. This is the first design I’ve done that has had to be blocked to fit the final triangular shape and full size. Trust me, it makes a world of difference.
