This Thanksgiving Turkey Craft and Write combines a cut-and-glue turkey craft with fiction and non-fiction writing. Students follow a step-by-step tutorial to build their turkey, then choose from a variety of craft elements so each design ends up unique. The crafts are inspired by the style of the Ms Artastic YouTube Channel.

After the craft, students plan and write about their turkey using prompt pages or blank writing pages, then finish with coloring, reflection and a 3 Stars and a Wish self-assessment. The adaptable templates and primary and intermediate writing pages make it a good fit for grades 1 to 5.

HOW TO USE IT

Photocopy the craft elements and set out a few at each table so students can pick the pieces they want. Save the unused pieces with the lesson plan for next year, which means less prep and less waste.

The PowerPoint step-by-step makes the craft easy to teach yourself or to leave with a substitute. Choose the primary or intermediate writing pages to match your learners, and use it as a quick activity or a longer project depending on your schedule.
