Hamunaptra Key — Worm Drive Mechanical Edition
The Key to Hamunaptra from The Mummy (1999) — rebuilt from the ground up. The original prop relied on springs that fail over time. After more than 20 design iterations spanning a decade, this version replaces the spring mechanism entirely with a precision worm drive that opens and closes with zero failure points. No springs. No degradation. Built to last as long as the real thing would have. This is not a replica of the prop — it is an engineering improvement on it.
Ten-part resin file — FDM will not hold the tolerances required for the worm drive to function. Print the eight moving leaf pieces vertically on their flattest edge to keep the pin holes open; print the top and bottom pieces vertically as well to preserve surface detail. Thoroughly rinse all parts before post-curing and test the pin holes while parts are still uncured.
Additional hardware required for assembly: 4 rare earth disc magnets (1/8" x 1/16"), 8 stainless steel drive posts with balls, 8 lengths of 0.5mm x 31.5mm spring steel wire, lubricating grease, and thread lock or super glue. Exact sourcing links for all hardware are included in the download. Full step-by-step assembly instructions included.
