32-Band Spectral Sidechain Processor for Max for Live

Make space where the collision actually happens.

SLOT 32 is a 32-band spectral sidechain processor for Ableton Live and Max for Live.

A conventional sidechain compressor turns down the whole signal. SLOT 32 divides the spectrum into 32 logarithmically spaced bands and applies attenuation according to the spectral content of another track.

If the sidechain is occupying the lows, SLOT can make room in the lows. If the collision is further up the spectrum, processing follows it there — without unnecessarily ducking everything else.

This makes SLOT useful for kick/bass separation, vocal/instrument masking, layered synths, percussion, dense mixes, sound design and anywhere two sounds are fighting for the same spectral space.

Controls

SIDECHAIN — Select the trigger source

TAP — Choose the sidechain routing point

SC GAIN — Adjust detector level without altering the audible source

THRESHOLD — Set when attenuation begins

DEPTH — Limit maximum attenuation

ATTACK / RELEASE — Control response timing

BANDWIDTH — Control the width of the spectral attenuation

FREQUENCY RANGE — Restrict processing to a selected region

MIX — Blend processed and unprocessed signals

SLOT 32 can operate in L/R or M/S, with linked stereo processing and selectable Mid, Side or Both targeting.

Enable DELTA to hear only what SLOT is removing.

The spectral display provides a live view of gain reduction across all 32 bands, with areas outside the selected processing range clearly shaded.

Requirements

Ableton Live with Max for Live.

Licence

Use SLOT freely in personal and commercial music, production, performance and sound-design work. The Max for Live patch may be modified for personal use. Redistribution of the original or modified device is not permitted.
