Ladislaus I of Hungary, also known as Saint Ladislaus, was born in 1040 into the Árpád dynasty, the ruling house that had established the Kingdom of Hungary. He was the son of King Béla First and a member of a dynasty that traced its roots back to the Magyar conquest of the Carpathian Basin.
Ascending to the throne in 1077, Ladislaus ruled for nearly two decades, a time marked by both consolidation and expansion. He secured Hungary’s borders against internal rivals and foreign threats, and led successful campaigns against the Pechenegs and Cumans, cementing his image as a warrior-king. He also extended Hungarian influence into Croatia after the death of King Zvonimir, bringing that kingdom into personal union with Hungary. Beyond his military achievements, Ladislaus strengthened the Christian character of the realm with new laws and church support, laying the foundations for Hungary’s medieval identity.
For this video, I have gathered the raw DNA of Saint Ladislaus from the European Nucleotide Archive.
I ran him through my Trait Predictor tool for DNA analysis.
