Materials
Yarn
Knitted Wit Sock (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 420yds 384m/113g) - 1 skein or 420yds (384m) of fingering weight yarn.
Color A: Pollen
Knitted Wit Smarties (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 45yds41m/12g) - 6 skeins or 270yds (247m) total of fingering weight yarn.
Color B: Mabon, Ostara, Imbolc, Beltane, Lammas, Lithia
Note about colors: Colors listed for Color B are listed in order of use in pictured cowl. The pattern is written such that only Color A and Color B are referred to. The
cowl pictured used up each mini skein color before moving on to the next color (reducing the number of ends to weave in). Feel free to experiment with your colors as desired.
Needles
US 4 (3.5mms) handy to have 2 needles for the kitchener st at the end)
Or size to obtain gauge.
Notions
2 cable needles, 2 stitch markers, 4 removable stitch markers (or progress keepers), tapestry needle, 2 buttons or toggles (optional), either a D 3.25mm crochet hook or set of US2 (2.75mm) needle for buttonhole (optional).
Gauge
26.5sts x 24 garter ridges = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm), lightly blocked in garter stripes
26sts x 34.5 rows = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm), lightly blocked in double seed stripes
Obtaining gauge is not essential for this cowl.
Finished Dimensions
11.25” (28.6cm) wide x 39” (99.1cm) circumference
Sizing Note: It is this designer’s habit to have extra yarn remaining when working a design, even in a pattern such as this one, where it is easy to use up yarn in full.
The sample cowl is not quite long enough to loop around twice, however 26g or approximately 96yds (88m) of leftovers remained in total. If you would like to lengthen your cowl or not have leftovers, it is recommended to use up your mini skeins in full.
When you run out of one, join the next one and continue in pattern (leaving tail long enough to weave in).
Suggestions for alternate lengths: 26-28” 66-71cm for a shorter, single loop cowl. 44-48” 112-122cm for a longer, double loop cowl.
