How is this different from the original couples set?
The original Conversations for Couples invites you to understand each other’s inner world more deeply.
The Faith Edition builds on that foundation, bringing your individual relationships with God and your shared life with Him into the conversation.
It explores your faith stories, spiritual hopes, questions, differences and experiences, before moving into intentional shared practices and the everyday choices that shape your marriage.
Scripture, optional prayer and practical responses give you opportunities to carry the conversation into your life together.
What is the heart behind this edition?
My heart is for marriages that are grounded in God, with space for both people to be deeply known, genuinely heard and supported in their walk with Him.
Sharing a Christian faith doesn’t mean we automatically understand each other’s relationship with God. We each carry a story: experiences that have shaped us, prayers we return to, questions we may not have spoken aloud and places where we long to grow or be renewed.
I wanted to create something that makes room for those conversations, while also asking what it means to seek God together and honour the marriage He has entrusted to us.
The heart of this edition is intentional relationship with God and each other: learning to listen, discerning together and allowing our faith to shape how we love in ordinary life.
Grounded in God. Growing in faith, intimacy and unity.
Who is this edition for?
This edition is designed particularly for married Christian couples who want to deepen their connection with God and each other.
You might already enjoy sharing your faith, or find that spiritual conversations are difficult to begin. You may feel closely aligned, or be navigating differences in understanding, practice or spiritual confidence.
You don’t need to be in the same spiritual place to begin. The invitation is to approach each other with curiosity, humility and care, with room for honest answers and an ongoing desire to grow with God.
How do we use the cards?
For individual questions, ask: “Would you like me to have a go first, or would you rather share?”
Your partner can invite a thoughtful guess, answer directly, say “I don’t know yet”, or pass. After a guess, they share what fits and their own experience. Swap roles so both people have a turn.
Cards labelled “Together” invite both of you to answer directly. Listen to each other’s perspective before deciding on any shared response.
Work through the numbered cards as the conversations deepen. There is no score or target number to complete. One meaningful conversation can be enough for a sitting.
What if we have different beliefs or spiritual experiences?
There is room to explore those differences honestly.
The questions invite you to understand how your partner arrived at their perspective and what their experience means to them. You don’t need to resolve every difference immediately or interpret the other person’s relationship with God.
Share your convictions with gentleness, listen without comparison and leave room to keep discerning through Scripture, prayer, conversation and wise counsel.
Each person remains responsible for their own response to God.
How do Scripture, prayer and practical responses fit in?
Every card includes a suggested Bible passage and a brief reflection to help you explore its connection with the conversation. Read the passage in context, using a Bible translation you prefer.
The prayer and response prompts are optional. You might pray aloud, pray silently, sit quietly or agree on a practical step.
Some prompts invite personal reflection. Others help you choose a shared practice, take responsibility for your own actions or arrange a time to revisit a commitment.
Scripture and prayer are invitations to seek God together, never tools for winning an argument or pressing your partner to agree.
What research informed the cards?
The questions draw on relationship research concerning emotional intimacy, feeling understood and cared for, and how couples support each other through stress.
They also draw on research into spiritual intimacy: sharing spiritual experiences and responding supportively to a partner’s disclosures.
The Christian foundations, biblical reflections and prayer prompts express the faith focus of this resource. Research informs the conversational approach; it does not establish the finished deck as a proven intervention.
This is an original, research-informed resource, not an official Gottman product, a validated assessment or a substitute for counselling.
Can we return to the cards over time?
Yes. Your relationship with God, your marriage and your circumstances continue to develop.
A question may open a different conversation in another season. You might revisit a hope for growth, notice a change in understanding or reflect on a practice you chose together.
The aim is to keep learning about each other and responding to God throughout your married life.
Connecting a little more, one conversation at a time.
