Lauma is an asymmetrical shawl, worked from the smallest tip with the regular increases at the end of RS rows until the final size has been reached. The large-scale CC lace panel is worked simultaneously with the main body, joining both colours with an intarsia method at the colour switch on RS and WS of the project. After the final size has been reached, the applied lace edge is worked in MC yarn - first, along the live stitches, then - using the same circular needle the stitches are picked up along the CC lace panel and applied lace border is being worked there until the initial cast-on tip of the shawl.

TECHNIQUES USED

Intarsia, eyelet lace, slipped stitches, applied lace edge, picking up stitches along garter edge.

OR

2 ply woolen spun light fingering weight lambswool yarn

MC: 904 yards / 830 m

CC: 270 yards / 248 m

Important: This pattern is extremely yarn weight and gauge sensitive, and is designed specifically for 2 ply woolen spun, light fingering weight lambswool. Please be advised that using any yarn other than the one in the designer sample will yield a different final yardage*

If you feel adventurous and want to use regular fingering weight yarn, be advised that your yardage will increase dramatically and so will the final size of the shawl.

If you choose to use regular fingering weight yarn with the average weight specifications of 100g = 460 yards / 420 m to 100 g = 482 yards / 440 m, please see yardage estimate below.

MC: 1086 yards / 997 m.

CC: 316 yards / 290 m.

Any yarn weight below the mentioned specifications (less yardage per 100g) will require more yarn than indicated.
