Description:

This Master Prompt would focus on transforming an extracted factor solution into a structure that is statistically defensible and substantively interpretable. It would guide researchers in selecting between orthogonal and oblique rotation strategies and in understanding Varimax, Quartimax, Equamax, Promax, Direct Oblimin, and related approaches. Pattern matrices, structure matrices, factor-correlation matrices, primary loadings, secondary loadings, and the principle of simple structure would be systematically examined.

A major emphasis would be placed on determining whether factors can reasonably be assumed to be independent rather than automatically choosing Varimax. Where latent constructs are theoretically or empirically correlated, researchers would consider oblique rotation and explicitly interpret factor correlations. This responds directly to concerns in the reviewed literature about the widespread reliance on Varimax and other orthogonal rotations despite modern recommendations favoring oblique approaches in many behavioral and social-science applications. The literature also demonstrates successful use of principal-axis EFA with oblique rotation to identify correlated latent dimensions.
