Perched high among lush mangrove leaves, a magnificent Anhinga is captured in its signature and most spectacular behaviour—spreading its wings wide to dry in the warm sun. Because Anhingas do not have waterproof feathers like other waterbirds, they must sun themselves to dry off after diving for fish, resulting in this incredibly powerful, statue-like pose.

In Costa Rica, the magnificent Anhinga is poetically known as the "piano bird"—a title that comes vividly to life in this captured scene.
