About the book

Preface

There is no profit in curing the body if in the process

we destroy the soul.

Samuel Golter

Our first book, Cancer Yet They Live was popular. It gave hope to many people and touched many lives. More than a decade has passed since that first book was written. We are now ready to write another – Cancer Why They Live, a sequel to the first.

CA Care has been around helping the helpless and often confused cancer patients since 1995. Unfortunately, not everyone who came to us found what they sought. Only thirty percent of them found help and relief.

Perhaps many patients are naïve and ignorant, especially those who have not had any experience dealing with cancer before. Some people believe that their doctors can cure their cancer. They comply with whatever their doctors want them to do. Of course, some have obtained their cure – albeit temporary relief or remission. But many have found themselves worse off than when they first started. Such is the unpredictable nature of cancer cure.

Often the people who come to seek our help have exhausted all medical avenues. Sadly, in spite of their earlier failed attempts, some have not learned that their health and healing are entirely their own responsibility. They come hoping for us to prescribe them the magic bullet. They want to find healing on their own terms. Unfortunately, we have no easy path to offer. They fail to realise that to get well or to continue to be well rests entirely on them. We, or many others like us, can only help put them on the correct path. They need to learn and change their perceptions, attitudes, diet and lifestyle. There is no short cut to healing. They need to believe and practise what they have learned. And we understand, this is no easy task.

In this book, we feature some outstanding people who have found healing from their cancers. These are true stories but the names of patients are changed to maintain anonymity. We hope you can learn from their experiences, as we had. May you imbibe their good values and use them as a walking stick for your own healing journey.

Quotations

There must be transparency and openness …

People who were well informed were in a better position to make informed decisions while those who were badly informed would rely on half-truths and lies and non-credible sources of information or they might continue to remain ignorant.

Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah, Raja Muda of Perak. The Star, 14 August 2007

Much of the advice given to us, even from some government sources, cannot be regarded as reliable, because of the overwhelming influence of vested-interest groups.

We must, therefore, rely very much on ourselves and our own efforts to safeguard our health.

Professor Jane Plant,

in: Prostate Cancer, pg. 231

The true measurement of a good physician is not necessarily how much he knows. It is, instead, how willing he is to search for, find and then use whatever forms of treatment, which in his opinion, will give his patients, the very best chance to remain alive and well.

Dr. Philip Binzel, Jr., M.D. in: Alive and Well, pg. 140

 •  Oncology is not like other medical specialties where doing well is the norm.

•   In oncology, even prolonging a patient’s life for three months to a year is considered an achievement.

•   Achieving a cure is like striking a jackpot.

•   Not all cancers can be cured.

Dr Ang Peng Tiam, President’s Scholar, Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist, Parkway Cancer Centre, Singapore. The Straits Times, Mind Your Body Supplement, Page 22, 29 Nov. 2006

Drugs out there on the market … don’t work in everybody.

Drugs for cancer are only effective in twenty-five percent of the patients.

Allen Rose, Worldwide Vice-president, GlaxoSmithKline. The Sun, 9 December 2002

Everybody knows that our present cancer drugs are lousy.

Wolfgang Wrasidlo, Director of Drug Development,Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, California.

The Zone, pg. 164

Some surgeons repeat the same mistake a hundred times and call that experience.

William Mayo.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Albert Einstein.
