It was a lazy Saturday afternoon when 12-year-old Tommy decided to sneak a peek at his older sister Jenna's room while she was out. Jenna, 16, always kept her door locked and was fiercely protective of her privacy. But Tommy was intensely curious.

Rifling through Jenna's desk drawers, Tommy found a strange-looking smartphone app icon labeled "Shrink-O-Matic". Intrigued, he tapped it open. The app explained it could shrink people down to the size of an insect using advanced quantum physics. Tommy's eyes widened in amazement. This was too cool!

A few hours later, Jenna came home from her part-time job at the mall. As she walked in the front door, she called out, "I'm home!" Tommy poked his head around the corner with a mischievous grin.

"Hey sis, check out this awesome new app I found on your phone!" Jenna's face paled as she saw her phone in Tommy's hands.

"Tommy, what have you done?!" she gasped. But her question was answered by the sight of Tommy, now shrunk down to the size of an ant, scurrying across the hardwood floor. The app had worked!

"Whoops, didn't mean to shrunk you for real, bro!" Tommy called out, waving his miniscule arms. Jenna rushed over in a panic.

"It's okay, I can probably reverse it..." She quickly downloaded the app on her own phone. But just then, they heard the sound of their mother's car pulling into the driveway.

"Mom's home! Quick, hide!" Jenna whispered frantically as she scooped up the tiny Tommy. But in her haste, she accidentally dropped him on the floor with a faint thud.

Before Jenn could react, the front door opened and their mother, Cathy, strode in - wearing her high-heeled mules. As she took a step, her stiletto heel came crashing down directly on top of the miniscule Tommy.

A sickening crunch echoed through the room, quickly followed by a splatter of something sticky. Cathy froze, looking down at the floor in shock. There on the hardwood lay a smashed stain of red, glistening in the light like spilled raspberry jam. The tiny body of her son had been obliterated on impact.

"Oh my God..." Cathy breathed, slowly raising her foot. A tattered remnant of Tommy's t-shirt clung to the bloody heel. Jenna clapped a hand over her mouth, her eyes wide with horror.

"What...what have I done?!" Cathy shrieked. She turned to Jenna, her face ashen. "You! This is all your fault! Where is your brother?!"

Jenna burst into tears, pointing a shaking finger at the spot on the floor. "I...I shrunk him on accident...and you...you just..." She couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence.

Cathy crumpled to her knees with a wail, flinging her mule off and crouching over the spot where her son had been obliterated. She began to sob uncontrollably, her wails of grief echoing through the house.

The two women remained there on the floor, one stricken with agony, the other overwhelmed by remorse and guilt. The house was silent except for their anguished cries. A life had been lost in the most shocking, unforeseen way possible. Their lives would never be the same.
