THE BONUS STORY

"Luna and the Little Light." Luna sets out for Pumpkin Night carrying one small candle in a lantern. A bat tells her it will never light the whole night. On the way she lends her light to a spider who has lost her thread, a ghost who has forgotten the way home, and a witch whose fire has gone out — and by the time she reaches the village, every lantern in the square is burning from that one small flame.

The candle really does get shorter as the night goes on. The flame never does. That is the whole idea of the book, and a four-year-old gets it from the pictures.

The characters in the story are the same characters in the puzzles and on the memory cards, so a child meets the spider, then places her in a grid, then matches her in a game. There are four discussion questions on the last page.
