I suggest 4 weight medium yarn and 4.5 or 5.0 hook. but, use what you want
Chaining row is not row1. If pattern says Row 1 SC100, chain 100+1 turn then Sc in 2nd chain from hook across to the end. Chain 1 turn, row 1 is now complete
